Kaspersky antivirus software has a long history, beginning with Eugene Kaspersky's first antivirus program in 1989:
- 1989Eugene Kaspersky creates his first antivirus program in response to the Cascade Virus. The early versions of the software were only able to recognize 40 viruses and were shared with friends and family.
- 1992Kaspersky releases the AntiViral Toolkit Pro (AVP).
- 1994Hamburg University awards Kaspersky's software first place in an analytical competition.
- 1997Eugene Kaspersky, his wife Natalya, and Alexey De-Monderik leave KAMI to form Kaspersky Lab and continue developing the antivirus product. The company name was changed from AVP to Kaspersky Anti-Virus after an American company registered the AVP trademark.
- 1998Kaspersky Lab's AVP is the only software able to remove the CIH virus, which was released by a Taiwanese student. This leads to increased demand for Kaspersky's software.
- 2004Kaspersky becomes the first antivirus software developer to update its antivirus databases every hour.
- 2007Kaspersky introduces the Kaspersky Open Space Security product line for business.
- 2009Kaspersky hosts the first Security Analyst Summit conference for information security researchers and analysts.
- 2013Kaspersky begins cooperating with INTERPOL.
- 2016Kaspersky launches the No More Ransom initiative with Europol and Intel Security.
